Boys in Hats is a folk duo consisting of Eric Anderson and Paul Bryant-Smith, two ordained ministers with delusions of musicianhood. They are best known for playing favorites--their own favorites--from the traditional folk literature and new folk music. Most fans report that they are very funny, without specifying whether the humor is intentional!
"They're cute." --wife
"Those wild and wacky Boys in Hats." --friend (who hadn't heard us play)
"I was having so much fun I forgot to take pictures." --photographer
"Daddy, play frogs." --son
"I don't DETEST folk! I'm just overly focused....." --church organist
"I really loved your show." --said to Paul after a funeral (hmmm)
"I wish I had one of those hats that makes you funny." --fellow musician
"The true successors to The Weavers." --not actually about us

Paul Bryant-Smith is an ordained minister who has made the exciting and more and more frequently accomplished transition from the Southern Baptist Convention to the United Church of Christ. He plays guitar, banjo, pennywhistle and bodhrán, and is a fan of Irish instrumental tunes, sea chanteys, and modern acoustic music. Paul is married to Kimberly and they have a son, Ian. |
| Eric Anderson is an ordained minister who was actually raised and ordained in the United Church of Christ, in which he continues to serve. He plays guitar. He is a fan of the sixties folk revival and of contemporary acoustic music, and has written a few songs which, so far, have earned him neither a great deal of money nor a great deal of embarrassment. Eric has two children, Brendan and Rebekah. |
